THS Atheltics Update
THS boys soccer faces key game
The Tigers stand 2-2 in the district and will almost certainly battle West Mesquite until the end for the fourth and final playoff sport in the district.
If the Tigers can steal a victory against Poteet, which up to this point has been easier said than done, they will go a long way towards making a mark in a crowded district.
Coach Joe Stephens said last week's bye was invaluable as it afforded time to rest for a banged up squad missing four starters.
It also afforded some time to tinker with different line-up combinations like moving freshman speedster Marcellus Hill up in the attack to create more scoring chances. The move paid off as Hill scored against North Forney and just missed on several other chances.
It should be interesting to see what the Tigers have come up with after a week off to prepare for the district's best team.
Lady Tigers face Poteet in key district match
Terrell stands 4-1 in the district and Poteet stands 4-2 in the district. Both teams are chasing Forney, who is 5-0 in the district.
It is also a matchup between two of the district leading scorers in Mollie Tolbert from Terrell and Kaylan Hunter from Mesquite Poteet. Tolbert leads the district with 26 goals and Hunter has scored ten goals.
Terrell High School girls soccer coach John Lantrip said focusing on Hunter will be the key for Terrell's success.
If the Lady Tigers can hold Hunter in check and spring Tolbert for several scoring chances of her own, then the Lady Tigers will walk out of Mesquite with an invaluable
road win.

Former THS star Calverley named ASC Pitcher of Week
Last week, Calverley threw a complete game, one-hit shutout against Arlington Baptist.
The freshman also had five strikeouts and only one walk.
Calverley was instrumental in helping THS reach the playoffs in back-to-back seasons. Last May, it was his complete game performance against Cleburne that sent the series to the deciding third game. Cleburne ultimately won the game and series but it would have been much easier without
Calverley.

era and the season with a 6 p.m. home tilt against Garland Lakeview.
After watching the Tigers scrimmage against DeSoto, it was tough
to draw any conclusions. The one I did draw though was that DeSoto
was one of the most athletic high school baseball teams I have ever seen.
They run the bases aggressively and they can also hit for power. DeSoto hit
two homeruns during the scrimmage.
Terrell is aggressive when they get on the bases because they may not
have the power other teams in the district pose.
I don't know how good Terrell will be right now, it is too early to say. They are still
developing a pitching staff and identifying an everyday line-up.
The guess here though is that they will be better in April than
they were in now and in March.

TISD Trims List Of Coaching Candidates
A committee made up of board members and TISD administrators has already been at work reviewing resumes to narrow the field for final interviews.
“We narrowed applicants to 11 and will interview all of those in the next two weeks,” said TISD superintendent Kelly Rodgers. “The candidate pool was extremely high quality and we are pleased with the progress the committee has made.”
In a special board workshop earlier in the week, Rodgers stated that he hoped to fill the position by Spring Break if possible.

Lady Tigers fall to Forney
Playing shorthanded without leading scorer Mollie Tolbert and Ali May for much of the game, Terrell did not have the offense to keep up with a solid Forney team.
The Lady Jackrabbits scored with five minutes left in the first half to take a 1-0 lead. Forney then added another goal 35 seconds into the second half for a 2-0 lead.
The lead was too much to overcome in this physical contest that had tempers flaring throughout the game.
Chase update
A police chase involving at least one Hunt County Sheriff's deputy and Texas Department of Public Safety troopers ended with at least one suspect being shot.
According to Terrell Police Chief Jody L. Lay, just before 3 p.m. TPD officers responded to the incident on FM 986 approaching CR 245, but it never came into the City of Terrell. By the time TPD officers were on the scene, the chase had ended.
"KSO (Kaufman Sheriff's Office) arrived very quickly, as well as a number of other DPS Troopers," Lay said. "The other agencies had the situation under control and TPD was not needed, so our units returned to the City immediately."
"The incident never got near the TISD, but both TPD and TISD Police were ready to take protective action should it have neared the campuses of TISD," Lay added.
We expect more information about this incident this evening and will update you when that happens.

Lady Tigers Remain Unbeaten In District
KAUFMAN - Terrell secured its third consecutive District 23-4A win Friday night, but suffered a big loss heading into Monday's showdown with Forney.
The Lady Tigers (11-3-1, 3-0 in district) used an aggressive offense Friday en route to a 3-1 win over Kaufman at Lions Stadium. Two of Terrell’s goal came off the foot of top scorer Mollie Tolbert, who unfortunately exited the game late in the second half when she received her second yellow card. The penalty, which was handed down for excessive celebration, means Tolbert will have to sit out Monday’s match against Forney, the district’s only other unbeaten team.

Rolling Blackouts Cancelled
ERCOT operations has cancelled the emergency procedures that began early Wednesday morning. The peak demand this morning was 55,460 MW (for 9-10 am) which did not surpass the new winter record set Wednesday evening between 7 and 8 pm.
“We are very appreciative of the sacrifices of those who were without power during the rotating outages, and we also appreciate the conservation efforts by consumers during this emergency situation, as well as the load resources in our demand response programs,” said ERCOT CEO Trip Doggett. “We also want to thank the media for their assistance in getting information out to the public about the need to conserve.”
“I also am very proud of the great work by the ERCOT operators in handling what could have been a disastrous situation for the entire state if they had not taken the quick action necessary to preserve the security of the grid,” he said.
“I also want to note the support and assistance we received from the transmission providers and generation owners and the Public Utility Commission,” Doggett said.
“With continued cold temperatures and snow predicted across the state, we ask that everyone continue to conserve their electricity usage until temperatures moderate.
And Yet Another Change
According to organizers, the oral health presentations will occur at Long, Wood and Kennedy elementary schools as well as Furlough Middle School as originally scheduled.
However, the free dental screenings and sealants for children ages 1 to 18 have been rescheduled for Feb. 18.
Another Schedule Change
Get out there and support your Terrell Tigers.
Another Update From ERCOT
Morning peak demand is projected to be more than 56,800 MW. Although immediate concerns for the possibility of rotating outages this morning are reduced, ERCOT will be monitoring the grid closely because additional unexpected major losses of generation could force operators to begin emergency procedures to avoid an uncontrolled statewide blackout.
The grid continues to have about 3,000 MW of generation out of service due to the effects of the extreme cold.
Rotating outages are controlled, temporary interruptions of electrical service initiated by each utility when ERCOT’s reserve power supplies are exhausted. Utilities/ transmission providers determine the location/scheduling of the rotating outages.
Rotating outages are the last step in a progressive series of emergency procedures that ERCOT follows according to market rules. We only call for controlled rotating outages as a final fail-safe measure to avoid an uncontrolled blackout across the state.
Additional updates will be distributed to the News Bulletins list and posted on the ERCOT website when we have new information.

Oncor: Conservation Vital To Averting More Problems
Since before 6 a.m. Wednesday morning, Oncor was one of multiple electricity transmission and distribution companies that initiated rotating, planned outages in an effort to reduce demand as required by the Electric Reliability Council of Texas. Extreme winter weather caused increased electricity demand and several power plants to go offline making demand for electricity exceed supply.
“There is a delicate balance between power supply and demand that, if compromised, can cause massive, uncontrolled blackouts that could take days to restore,” Oncor Chief Operating Officer Charles Jenkins said. “The rotating outages ERCOT asked utilities to initiate today were necessary to prevent a catastrophic event. We will continue to work with ERCOT to restore this critical supply/demand balance.”
You can find more of the story here.
Rotating Outages Possible Tonight, Tomorrow
ERCOT is asking consumers to reduce energy consumption during peak-demand times this evening until 10 p.m. – and tomorrow morning from 6 – 8 a.m.
The grid continues to have more than 5,000 MW of generation out of service due to the effect of the extreme cold.
Tonight’s peak demand is forecast to hit 54,900 MW between 7-8 p.m. The morning peak was 53,223 MW – with 4,000 MW dropped via rotating outages - at 9-10 a.m.
At this time, the forecast for tomorrow’s peak load is 56,800 MW for 7-8 a.m.
ERCOT’s current record for all time winter peak demand is 55,878 MW, which occurred on Jan. 8, 2010.
Rotating outages are controlled, temporary interruptions of electrical service initiated by each utility when supplies of reserve power are exhausted. Without this safety valve, generators would overload and begin shutting down to avoid damage, risking a domino effect of a statewide outage.

TVEC Announcement
The Energy Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) has instructed electric power suppliers across Texas to initiate rolling blackouts. TVEC is currently conducting such controlled outages.
The outages are necessary to compensate for a generation shortage due to numerous plant trips that occurred because of the extreme weather.
These outages are controlled, temporary interruptions of electric service, typically lasting 10-30 minutes each. It is not known at this time how long the need for these outages will last.
If members experience an outage lasting longer than 30 minutes, it may be an unscheduled outage and they should report it to TVEC.
Expect Power Outages
The order took effect Wednesday morning, a day after an ice and snow storm blanketed parts of Texas.
Consumers and businesses are urged to reduce their electricity use. ERCOT had no timetable for when the rotating outages would end.
The ERCOT region includes Houston, Dallas, Fort Worth, San Antonio, Austin, Corpus Christi, Abilene and the Rio Grande Valley. ERCOT manages the flow of electricity to about 22 million Texas customers.
Rotating outages are defined as "controlled, temporary interruptions of electric service, typically lasting 10-45 minutes per neighborhood."
Critical need customers, such as hospitals and nursing homes, are generally excluded from outages.
