Basketball rankings released

The new Texas Association of Basketball Coaches ranking were just released and while Terrell was not represented in the boys or girls rankings, District 15 was on both fronts.

Ennis maintained a steady hold on the district with a 21-4 record overall and 9-0 district tally. This is good for #8 in Class 4A. Remember, this is the same team who escaped Terrell with a 62-61 victory. The Lions trailed by as many as 14 in that Jan. 7 game at TISD at The Complex.

For the girls, Mesquite Poteet was the highest ranked team in the district at #12. The Lady Pirates defeated Terrell last to cap a season sweep. The Lady Pirates are going to be a tough out for someone in the playoffs because of their exceptional guard play.

West Mesquite snuck in the rankings at #24 after going 2-0 last week. West Mesquite narrowly beat the Lady Tigers 53-50 four days before Christmas. The Lady Tigers and Lady Wranglers get a rematch next Tuesday at The Complex.

Morning Update (11/28/10)

• On Tuesday, the Runnin' Tigers will put their 2-0 record on the line as they tip off District 15-4A play at home against Waxahachie. The Lady Tigers also will be in action at Waxahachie.

• In a cooperative effort between the Kaufman Chamber of Commerce and the Kaufman Economic Development Corporation, bus service for transportation around that city is tentatively scheduled for a Dec. 1 start, according to Ann Glasscock, president of the chamber. The bus, which will be made to appear as a trolley, will be on a fixed route, making Kaufman one of the first small towns in the state to have such a transportation option.

• Mesquite Poteet remained alive in the Class 4A high school football playoffs, rolling up 500 yards of total offense in a 45-21 win over Highland Park.

Hope you're all having a wonderful holiday weekend.
