Morning Update (11/22/10)

The Walmart Distribution Center recently made the folks at the Share Center happy (see above). Check out Sunday's print edition of The Terrell Tribune to find out why.

• Brookshire Grocery Co. has kicked off its 29th annual Spirit of Christmas Food Drive in most of its supermarkets located throughout Texas, Louisiana and Arkansas on Nov. 17. Approximately 150 stores will collect donations of non-perishable food items and team up with a wide range of service organizations, food banks and volunteers to distribute food to families who need assistance before Christmas.

“The goal is to supply about a week’s worth of groceries per household based on need,” said Community Relations Director Sam Anderson. “Our company donates boxes to pack the food in, coupons for a free hen to go along with the shelf-stable goods collected, and sells scan coupons which go back to our partnering service organizations in the form of a gift card to purchase supplemental or needed items in the drive.”

Anderson noted the format differs some in each town but the goal is the same – to pinpoint those who need help and make the holidays brighter by supplying groceries such as corn, beans, rice, chili, spaghetti, spaghetti sauce, macaroni and cheese, tuna, oatmeal, cereal, peanut butter, flour, sugar, and other nonperishable goods.

• Not sure he's the answer, but the Dallas Cowboys are definitely playing more inspired under Jason Garrett.

• The Kaufman County Master Gardeners 2011 Horticultural calendar has arrived. Reaching 2,800 businesses and households in Kaufman County, this information-packed calendar can be picked up at the Texas AgriLife Extension Office or at Master Gardener events from now into the first quarter of 2011. See the KCMGA website for extension office address and event list.
