The boys and girls soccer teams scored big victories on Thursday night and Friday morning respectively.
It wasn't just that they won it was how they won that could be a good sign of things to come for both squads on the season.
The boys defeated Amarillo Tascosa, 3-0, behind two goals from Josh Simmons.
The girls defeated Halsville 3-0 Friday morning thanks to a pair of goals from Ariel Marroquin and a goal from Mollie Tolbert.
Both Joe Stephens and John Lantrip have harped all pre-season about the need to create more offensive opportunites and to finish those when they present themselves.
Watching both teams, it was apparent the defense will be a constant for both teams. The only question is will they score enough goals to win.
Stephens saw his team control action throughout the three scrimmages but could not seem to get the ball through the net. Thursday night was a different story as they mustered three goals to go along with another solid defensive effort.
Lantrip's squad is developing depth and easing in young players to the varsity brand of soccer. It has been a struggle at times but with solid play from goalie Alex Strange, the process has gone
more smoothly than not.
Both Lantrip and Stephens have been mixing and matching line-ups. They are trying to find the right combinations to create the most offensive firepower.
Stephens said during Winter camp that his team was better skill wise than last season's squad, who narrowly missed the playoffs. He thought this team could score more goals and he appears to be correct.
All in all, this will be an entertaining soccer season in Terrell if both teams can find some offense.
