In the understatement of all understatements, the Terrell boys basketball team
needs a win.
As you read in today's paper, Terrell is three games behind Red Oak for the last playoff spot
in District 15.
Terrell faces Red Oak 8 p.m. tomorrow at The Complex in a golden opportunity to make up some
ground in the playoff race.
A win brings them that much closer but a loss puts them four games back with seven to play.
It would not be impossible but maybe improbable.
These two teams have already faced each other once this season and Tiger fans can only hope the outcome is different.
It was Dec. 4 in the Royse City Tournament finals and Red Oak prevailed 54-47.
The Hawks jumped out to a double digit lead and held the Tigers at bay for the rest of the game.
Terrell could only get as close as four points the rest of the way. They were seemingly never in the game.
The Tigers were a different team for good and bad reasons. They were without Michael McNeal in the first meeting. The senior has provided a nice complement to Houston Cougars signee Jherrod Stiggers, who leads the district in scoring at over 18 pts/game.
The Tigers were also playing as well as they have all season at that point as well.
Since then, Terrell has lost five of six district games by a total of 12 points.
The Tigers have to trust each other down the stretch in games. A week off between games should help.
Coach Willie Coulter has talked about his team needing to answer the bell late in games.
With eight games left in a season that started full of promise, the bell is starting to toll.
